The Hottest Chicks in Primetime Crime Shows
I’m always a fan of police procedural and crime investigation television shows like Crime Scene Investigation, Criminal Minds, Cold Case and Without a Trace. I love the way crimes are solved and criminals are apprehended despite the circumstances going against the investigators. But the other reason why I love watching these shows are the beautiful women that made it more interesting to watch. I used to think cops and law enforcement personnel are just the typical donut-munching and caffeine-addicted men in patrol cars and dry-cleaned suits. I never thought that there are chicks in the law enforcement scene.
Saving Private Claudio: A Forgotten Hero
We honor heroes for their exploits and selfless service because their heroic sacrifices made our lives better. Our war veterans are now old and sickly while some have died and others forgotten despite their huge contribution for the survival of our country.
Is DARNA an original Filipino Komiks classic?
This article is a response to the article “Darna is NOT a ‘Rip-Off’ of Wonder Woman,” by Raffy Arcega. I myself is a big fan of comic books especially those of the classic superheroes like Superman and Batman from the DC Universe and Spiderman and the X-Men from the Marvel Universe. Though I am a patriotic Filipino, I am quite familiar with the Filipino Komiks in their entirety but I am not especially pleased that these superheroes are “original.” Though the man usually attributed to our local genre, Mars Ravelo, has been the icon in our childhood past. He’s a talented and creative individual who is the driving force behind popular staple heroes like Darna and Captain Barbel. But nowadays, the creative talent in the entertainment industry is now diluted, frankly speaking, that is why television channels keep on syndicating popular comic book characters as if its brand new. What makes it worse is that the typical superhero story in the comics has now tailored-fit to be in a teleserye format.
Television Torture by Local Telenovelas
Telenovelas have recently become an inseparable part of Filipino culture as many people became glued to their television sets to watch these mini-series, which basically showcase cliches like a poor girl/boy falls in love with a rich person in a typical Romeo-Juliet setting or superhero/heroine set in a typical Filipino setting.
“Pagbaba ng Kalidad ng mga Palabas sa Telebisyon”
In response to a blog by Swerver entitled “Free TV Is No Fun Anymore,” I decided to write some of the factors why television programming in the Philippines is so “degenerating” that watching is like torture to my senses. Based on years of watching and examining the trends in the way people watch television, I have listed some of the possible reasons why television programming suck. This is in no way discouraging people not to watch television but rather its a wake up call for the industry to do something creative and meaningful so that Filipinos will be watching quality shows instead of watching no-holds-barred variety/acting/singing/dancing shows mixed with foreign but locally-dubbed telenovelas.
